If you were a race car fan back in the ’40s and ’50s, Curtis Turner is no stranger to you. Having a rural Virginia background, similar to Turner’s, this book took me back to my youth, to Saturday nights at Victory Stadium in Roanoke, VA and the dirt track days at Martinsville Speedway. For younger race fans, this book provides the history and background for how NASCAR was born and the rough and tough drivers who fed the newborn. A great read.
