You need to know a little bit about car stereos to use this product. First, you must be able to remove your JVC unit from your dash in order to get to the back of it. This product plugs into the J-link port on the back as described; however, there are two small wires (red and black) coming from the J-link end of this product. These must be connected so your Ipod will charge when it is plugged in. Disclaimer: I do not know if the playback from Ipod will work at if these wires aren’t connected. You can easily splice them into the matching colored wires on the back of your CD player.

Sound quality is great. There’s no whining or cracking at all. This is a great buy if you’d rather listen to your Ipod rather than the radio in your car. Much more reliable than an FM transmitter as well.

I got this to hook up my iPhone 3G to my JVC car stereo. It works great, although I had to buy a Scosche charging adapter Scosche Charging Adapter for iPod touch 2G, iPod nano 4G, iPhone 3G (Black) because the 3G doesn’t charge with the FireWire pins like the original iPhone used to. This isn’t PAC’s fault or JVC’s, it’s Apple’s. Oh well, I just have a small adapter sticking out of the bottom of the phone.

My other problem is that I get quite a bit of interference, but again that’s not JVC or PAC’s fault, not really Apple’s, I guess, there’s just a lot of interference causing technology in the iPhone. I’m given the option of turning off the phone radios when I plug this in, but then I can’t make or receive phone calls. I just choose to live with the noise. It usually goes away in 10-15 seconds anyway. Actually most of the noise goes away when I turn off the phone’s screen. Interesting…

I wish the cable was a little longer so I could route it under my floor mat to hide the cable, and I can’t bring the phone to my ear while it’s plugged in, but I usually use my bluetooth headset while I’m driving anyway so it’s not a big problem.

Works well for the price. I was using an 1/8″ aux in cable and I much prefer using this and plugging in through the dock. No more car charger, no more lost aux cable, no more changing the ipod volume when i get in the car… another problem solved.

I use this cable with my KD-HDR1 and 30GB iPod Video, and I can attest to the noise factor. It’s not as noticeable when you are listening to songs that have a good volume level, but if you’re listening to classical or other songs that have low gain, you’ll hear the static and noise similar to that of an external CD changer. I know it doesn’t help that the cord plugs in to the CD changer port, but it would be nice to have an amplifier between the iPod and head unit for this cable.

The volume is controlled by the head unit, which in my case meant almost doubling the volume just to hear the music. The song selection controls are handled by the iPod, which seems like it would be easier than controlling it by the head unit (and it is, to me).

This is definitely a cheaper alternative to the box adapter that lets your head unit control the iPod, though it is nice that this also has a built-in charger. It works well for the price.
