I was totally shocked to ever find a 5-way 6×9, especially Kenwood. This speaker sounds awesome! Killer bass, great mids, crisp highs. The only thing I wasn’t happy with is the grills. They are too bulky, very unsightly. In fact I replaced them with some 15 year old Kenwood grills I had in a box! Can’t wait to get my Kenwood amp installed to see how these speakers do with some real power, but I believe they will perform as expected or better.

great bass from these speakers… they can also handle allot of watts and stay very clear with very little to no distortion… if you want all you can get from these speakers you will defiantly have to run them through an amp

For decades, the Kenwood name has been a leader in home and auto sound systems and I have never owned a single piece. I recently purchased a ’70s muscle car and was looking to upgrade from a factory am radio with a single dash speaker to a more up to date system. I had already received a stereo/cd player as a gift and decided to google for 6×9 speakers. I came across these Kenwood’s and couldn’t believe the price. At first I thought it was a typo for the price and should have read 2 way, not 5 way. Sure enough, after reading the reviews and doing comparisons to other speakers at triple the price, my mind was made up. Into the cart they went. The service was outstanding and in no time, I was installing them. The only downfall, in my opinion, is the speaker grills. They are designed more for the modern import interior, not the muscle car. Didn’t matter as they would be installed below the perforated package shelf. I am not into sub woofers, but I do like to feel the beat and Kenwood delivers. I would go as far as saying, save a grand on subs and get these 6982IE’s. You’ll never know the difference. They pound the base, with clear mids and highs. If I had the room, there would be a set in my doors too. I have a factory Kicker system in my daily driver and the sound is compareable. All in all, based on brand, sound quality and the price I paid, I stoled these speakers.

These are solid replacement speakers over whatever stock 6 x 9s you might already be using in the rear. But they absolutely need an amplifier to bring out their potential. I first installed them and noticed that they didn’t play as loud as my stock speakers. Of course they wouldn’t. They are 4 ohm speakers (as opposed to the 2 ohm stock speakers in my 2001 Honda) and they are far more power hungry than the stock set.
Then I installed an Alpine PDX-4.100 and hooked them up to the Kenwoods. It just made a world of difference. Now they play extremely loud and clear with solid amounts of bass. I don’t know if I really believe their spec about being able to go as low as 28 hZ, but there is reasonable thump.
And for the price you can get them at, they are just a great deal.
Great speakers, dont hesitate to purchase these. The best price and best product. You will NOT be dissapointed.I purchased four sets and loaded up my vehicle. I dont even have an amp yet and these speakers rock!
